Cigar chompin’ reviews; Call of Juarez Gunslinger

Call of Juarez Gunslinger

Publisher: Ubisoft

Developer: Techland

Get it here:

Gameplay: With fast and furious gameplay, a skill tree where you quickly advance, tons of action without being overbearing, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger hits the seemingly elusive sweet spot of action gaming, where it’s fun, but it’s not tiring. TAKE NOTE BLACK OPS!

Story: Simple, basic, but polished to a high shine with a framing device I want to see more of. The gameplay and story meld together perfectly and stay that way through out. Let this be a shining example of what a linear game should be.

Replay: with an overall fun experience, multiple game modes, and New Game + available you’ll be playing this title for some time.

Sound: Each gun makes a satisfying BANG! that gives them a good punch, and makes them a joy to use. The music is standard for an old west setting and, unfortunately, forgettable. To be honest I can’t even remember hearing any music.

Graphics: The cell shaded style serves the game well, and isn’t prominent, so if you’re a true blue fan of cell shading you may be disappointed, but if you’re lukewarm on the idea, then it shouldn’t be a hindrance of your enjoyment.

Score: 9.46

  1. Good of you to draw attention to a Western game I considered well-designed. I teach a college course on the Westerns and write about the genre at – you may be interested in the two-part interview I did with Haris Orkin, lead story-writer for Call of Juarez: Gunslinger.
